good and green

Good
Eleven Winery is committed to making the world a better place. How? By giving all of our after-tax profits to charity. Really? Yes, really. For more details you can check out this older post to my blog, where I lay out how this works. This was written a while ago, and we remain committed to these ideas. We have elected to continue growing and so most of our revenue goes back into the business, but starting in 2011 we are doubling our giving each year nonetheless.

In addition, we support a host of local charities through gifts of auction items, generally a magnum bottle of wine and in select instances a sit-down food pairing tasting with the winemaker. These events are a lot of fun and tend to inspire competitive bidding when they are available at auction.

Green
Living on Earth would be pretty much of a drag without clean water, clean air, nice weather and a diverse ecosystem to keep us alive and healthy. As it turns out, we are a species that is powerful enough to screw these things up. But, I think there's a chance that we're smart enough not to. As a business we have a bigger footprint than your average joe, which means we have additional responsibility to make sure that footprint is as small and sustainable as possible.

We live up to this responsibility in a variety of ways, including recycling, using renewable and recyclable packaging, and offsetting our carbon output. Here's a bit about this that I wrote a while back, and we remain committed to these principles.
