Over the span of his 20-year career, Jack Parker has taken his life-long journey through the peaks and valleys and shaped a musical sound reminiscent of a timeless America. For years, Parker has been the ingenious six-string slinger interpreting other people’s songs from “stage-right” as a founding member of Tumbledown (along with Mike Herrera of MxPx), Rocky Point All-Stars, New Old Stock, and Dark Horses, (Parker was also a guitarist for the legendary Bremerton punk band MxPx from 2011-2016), but more recently he has taken center-stage to write, sing, and play his own songs that have an air of rambling down the open road, but ultimately a longing for coming home. His roots lie in the heart of the great Pacific Northwest, right next to the shores of Puget Sound.

This 3-hour class is designed for brand-new players and anyone who wants a clear introduction to American Mahjong. We will start with a lesson on the tiles, the card, the Charleston, and the basic flow of play, then spend most of the class in guided play. No experience is needed, and no memorizing is required. Materials are provided. Come ready to learn, ask questions, sip something good, and enjoy a social night of Mahjong.

You’ll learn how to:

• Recognize the basic tile groups

• Read a beginner-friendly Mahjong card

• Follow the rhythm of a turn

Less Paulish Trio is a mostly instrumental group, playing improvised music in many styles. Members are: Roger Ferguson (National Flatpick Champion, guitar/mandolin/fiddle), Trevor Hanson (7-string guitars), and Mick Nicholson (bass). All three are well known Northwest performers, familiar throughout the area at many venues working with diverse ensembles.

The trio's material ranges widely — swing and latin standards, bluegrass and other Americana/old-timey tunes, snatches from the Django Reinhardt manouche tradition, classics from the Great American Songbook, and original compositions. Frankie McCabe is a genre-bending singer-songwriter born & raised in Northern California, and now residing part time in Seattle. Most days, you’ll find her plucking away with songwriting, recording original material, trying her hand at mixing in a friend’s home studio, storyboarding and editing video content or performing live – both solo and with a number of different collaborators.

Her vocal delivery is often described as “bluesy”, “passionate”, “soulful” and at times, “haunting.” Frankie’s musical endeavors span primarily from vintage-inspired pop & folk to country & alt-rock, with a healthy dose of novelty experimentation in her repertoire. 

A prolific and oftentimes deeply personal songwriter with a diverse array of solo & co-written tracks under her belt, Frankie’s approach to lyricism tends toward wistful & confessional; featuring themes of uncomfortable self-reflection with an underlying sense of hope, as well as the intention to heal. 

But Frankie also has a distinct flair for dramatic storytelling, which is further evidenced by an ever-expanding collection of self-made music videos & indie films frequently born of her fascination with the supernatural, human psychology, and bygone eras of history, merged with a strong desire to overcome her own darkness and reach others on similar journeys.

Portland, OR based Dumpster Joe & Taylor Thomas play jazz, country blues and jugband tunes from the 1920’s and 30’s on res-o-phonic guitar and cello. Larry’s music is reminiscent of Jackson Brown, Lyle Lovett, and Marc Cohn. His extensive repertoire of originals and classic covers can be tailored to audiences at festivals, wineries, restaurants, pubs, private events, radio interviews, and house concerts.

In the past 10 years, Larry Murante has won more than 18 awards in US and international competitions for songwriting and performance, including Grand Prize Winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

Other awards include the West Coast Songwriters Song Contest and the Great American Song. His fourth CD release, Patch of Sky, has garnered critical acclaim and radio airplay in both the US and Europe.
