Great Blue Heron is Jason Howard, an award-winning singer/double bassist who bends the rules of his instrument to uniquely venture into indie-folk music. Using the combination of singing and bowing/plucking chords on the double bass, he creates a new sound in the genre.

The music of Great Blue Heron lyrically explores the harsh realities of adulthood, the weight of society, and the resulting yearning to be in and to be part of the wild.
